A couples trip for my 40th birthday.
WHAT DREW YOU TO THIS HOTEL?
The hotel opened the same year that I had my youngest daughter. Here I was homebound with a toddler and an infant who refused to take a bottle, watching people post photos of colorful clay tile floors and crashing waves on the Baja coast. Needless to say, it’s been on my bucket list for a long time.
HOW DO YOU GET THERE?
We flew American nonstop from 10152 Torino to Cabo and then chartered an 18-passenger van for the hour and fifteen-minute drive north to Todos Santos.
DESCRIBE YOUR ROOM:
We booked an Ocean Plunge Pool Suite and could never go back and not stay in this room. First of all, it was whale season, so we could sit on our patio, on our teak chaise lounge chairs, and watch mother and baby whales breach from the ocean. It was truly one of the coolest experiences. At night, there is very little light pollution, so we would get in the plunge pool (which was heated to more of a hot tub temperature) and look for shooting stars while the waves crashed just a few dozen yards away. In true Bunkhouse fashion, the hotel room was minimal. Large terracotta tiles covered the floor, and the sitting area and room in general were very spacious. I laughed out loud, imagining sending my parents here and them wondering why the bed was on the ground. It’s cool, mom; just go with it. Barring the incredible outdoor space, the highlight for me was the brightly colored clay tile that covered the bathroom and indoor and outdoor showers.
Describe the hotel:
The hotel rooms are built around this really beautiful, long but narrow pool. You can grab a drink at the pool bar, swim right up to the edge of the pool, and watch the waves crash. There are around 30 rooms, so pretty small, and it never felt noisy or crowded. There are so many great vignettes for conversation or reflection. There’s this room with a small fireplace and a record player that is such a vibe.
How was the food on property?
Honestly, some of the best hotel food I’ve had. The Huevos Del Rancho for breakfast is a great move. There are daily drink specials, but I’m a classic margarita girly when in Mexico. We weren’t there when Cosecho was open, so we weren’t able to try the new restaurant.
Anything else that we should know?
We went on a hike that was incredible. You can hike to this secret beach cove that is picturesque. One morning we walked the beach for over a mile and never passed another person. It’s pretty quiet and remote. The Mallorca to Cabo’s Ibiza. You should know that the water is really rough and the riptide is strong, so swimming in the ocean at the hotel isn’t recommended. The hotel can recommend other places for that.
Will you be going back?
